See Ladakh from the sky or see it by road, there are just a handful of places in India that invoke such strong appreciation for natural beauty. Once the capital of the Ladakhi Kingdom, Leh is a bustling mountain town with bazaars, Tibetan style forts, surrounded by rocky mountains. Take it easy on your first day here as you will need to acclimatise to the high altitude of the region.
Leh - Shey, Thikshey, Hemis
Today we spend the day sightseeing. You will be visiting some of Leh's most beautiful monasteries; Shey Palace, Thikshey and Hemis monasteries Shey Palace, situated on a hillock, was once the residence of the royal family and it was constructed by the first king of Ladakh. Later, drive to Thiksey Monastery, considered as the most beautiful monastery in Ladakh. The day ends with a visit to Hemis monastery, the largest monastery complex in Ladakh. Leh - Stok, Matho & Stakna
Your Ladakh journey continues with navigating the contours of the rocky mountains of the region. After breakfast, make way for Stok Palace (6137 meters altitude), the residence of the royal family since 1840. Drive to 16th-century old Matho monastery belonging to one of the last red-hat sects of Ladakh. The monastery houses 400-year-old artifacts and many shrines can be found around it. Carry on to Stakna Gompa, 13 Kms away from Matho before heading back to your hotel.
Leh - Khardung la - Nubra
Leave today with your VAYU chauffeur for Hunder (Nubra Valley) through Khardung La Pass (5602 m) - World's highest motorable road. Stop a while for a photo shoot and continue to Nubra Valley. Nubra is a tri-armed valley located to the north east of Ladakh. The Shyok River meets the Nubra River to form a large valley that separates the mountain ranges of Ladakh and Karakoram. The average altitude of the valley is about 3048 metres and is known for its unparalleled stargazing experience in India.
Also known as the 'Desert in the Sky', Hunder is a small village where the river Shyok and Nubra meet. Famous for the camel rides among the never-ending sand dunes, the Bactrian Double-humped camels are a reminder of a bygone era of the Silk Route. Spend the day taking in the sights and enjoy a camel ride.
Nubra - Leh
Drive back to Leh by the same route via Khardung La pass.
Leh - Pangong
The drive to Pangong Lake in the morning passes through Ladakh's beautiful countryside. The azure blue lake is spread over 100 km and over 2 countries, one-third of it in India and two-third in Tibet. Situated at an altitude of 4250 meters, Pangong lake is a spectacular spot to camp overnight and one can rent a tent around the lake.

In the morning enjoy a photo session around the lake before heading back to Leh today.
Leh - likir - Alchi - Uleytokpo
After After breakfast leave for Uleytokpo, known to have the best camping spots in the region. En-route visit Likir Gompa and continue to Alchi monastery before reaching Uleytokpo by lunch. Uleytokpo - lamayuru - Uleytokpo
Leave Uleytokpo during the day for Lamayuru monastery. One of the oldest monasteries in the region, built around the same time as Alchi monastery, Lamayuru monastery houses a rich collection of paintings and Thangkas. Head back to your accommodation in Uleytokpo in the evening and stay the night.
Uleytokpo - Phyang - Leh
Bid farewell to Uleytokpo and make your way back to Leh. En-route visit the exciting Phyang monastery. Established in 1515 AD the monastery houses many religious relics and a 900 hundred-year-old museum which has an extensive collection of Chinese, Mongolian and Tibetan firearms and weapons.
Leh - Tso moriri
Visit the largest lake in the Ladakh region today. Tso moriri houses a variety of flora and fauna, up to 34 species of birds can be found here. Adjacent to the lake is the picturesque village of Korzok where you can easily find accomodation for the night. Spend the night here before leaving for Leh in the morning.
Tso moriri - Sarchu
Heading down to the boundary of Ladakh and Himachal, your travels take you to a major halt point (for people travelling the region), Sarchu. Get rest at one of the tents at Sarchu and explore the quaint villages close by.
Sarchu - Jispa/Keylong
Leave by surface for Keylong. Keylong is an oasis of green fields and willow trees, water streams surrounded by brown hills and snow capped peaks. Snow peaked mountains and alpine terrain changes to green fields and mountains as you enter Himachal Pradesh.
Keylong - Manali
Leaving for a tourist hotspot in Himachal, Manali. Known to be the beginning of the ancient trade route to Ladakh, Manali now offers luxury boutique homestays and hotels, nation-wide known restaurants and a lot of sightseeing opportunities.
Manali - Dharamsala
Leave with your VAYU chauffeur for Dharamsala in the morning. Dharamsala is a city in the upper reaches of the Kangra Valley and is surrounded by dense coniferous forest consisting mainly of stately Deodars. The Dalai Lama's residence and the headquarters of Central Tibetan Administration are in Dharamshala. Explore the town at your leisurely pace on your last day on this journey.
A journey you will remember for a lifetime. Ancient Buddhist monasteries and traditions, quaint villages in the clouds, the magnificence of the greater Himalayas, all instil a sense of humility in a region that so few are privileged to experience. There is nothing planned for the day. Airport transfers are included, however, we would be happy to assist you if you choose to stay a few more days or are in need of any transfers.
